Pelican – A white male pelican injured its left wing in the winter of 2001 and was stranded on the ice of Lake Overholser. Wildcare Director Rondi Large along with Dr. Joe Carter and a squad of Oklahoma City fire fighters braved the temperatures and rescued this pelican. Thanks to the care of the Wildcare staff and volunteers this pelican was later released a few months later in sunny Port Aransas, Texas. |

Short-Eared Owl – This Short-Eared Owl came to Wildcare in late October, during migration, with a few bumps on his body, but nothing was seriously wrong with him. We moved this owl to a natural-habitat, outside flight pen so he could get accustomed with outdoor life again. After two weeks of monitoring his behavior, he was released in late November at a site that met all of his needs for survival. |
