New Facility Building
WildCare currently operates at the Director’s home and property. On average, 2,600 people bring 4,000 animals into WildCare’s admission room—the Director’s porch—annually. Babies and injured animals must stay inside, out of the weather, until they are stable. They may be housed inside anywhere from a few days to several months. Orphaned babies are housed in the nursery, which is a 760-square-foot room in the Director’s garage. For several months in the spring and summer, 300 baby birds and mammals live in bassinets in the nursery. The nursery is the noisiest and most crowded area at WildCare.
WildCare needs a facility building where the public has access. They want to see the babies as they are being cared for but without disturbing them. We need to make everyone feel that they have brought that one animal that they found to the best possible facility where it will receive the best chance for surviving out in the wild.
WildCare is networking with other rehabilitation facilities around the country to determine the best possible floor plan to meet the needs of the public, the staff and volunteers, and most importantly, the animals.
