Medical Needs for One Year

By the very nature of wildlife rehabilitation, we routinely treat sick and injured animals. WildCare administers vaccinations to raccoons, bobcats, and coyotes. We annually treat on the average 340 broken bones, 370 wounds, 260 head traumas, 50 nutritional problems, 40 back injuries, 10 poisons, and 70 with diseases. Our veterinarian, Dr. Joe Carter, and his staff donate their time for surgeries, radiographs, testing, and examinations. Yet there are expences of medication and medical supplies such as bandaging, splints, ozagen, and surgical pins.

$1860 Vaccines needed for one year

$135   30 Adult raccoons – one canine and one feline distemper vaccine combination @ $4.50/adult x 30 raccoons/yr.
$1350    100 Baby raccoons– 3 shots of canine and feline distemper vaccine combination @ $4.50/vaccine combo x 3 sets of injections x 100 baby raccoons/yr.
$375    5 Baby bobcats- 3 shots of feline vaccine @ $2.50/vaccine x 3 sets of injections x 5 baby bobcats/yr.

$4,000 Surgeries per year

$4000 Ortheopedic surgeries – Most surgeries are broken bones. Of the 340 broken bones we see annually, approximately 200 can be helped with surgery. Fractures need one IM pin @ $8 and two external pins @ $6/ea. = $20/fracture x 200/yr.

$4,000 Blood work for birds -Bird blood work is specialized @ $80/test x 50/yr.

$1,120 Cultures and sensitivities- $18/test and $10 to ship = $28/test and shipping x 50/yr.

$3,750 Necropsies- average $75/animal x 50/yr.
